Vintage Blouse and Floppy Hat

Who doesn't love a giant floppy hat? Please, it's the perfect answer to an unfortunate forecast that is "chance of showers". This drizzly day was just that. We drove by this neighborhood that was alarmingly GREEN and I just had to pay it a visit between slight spills of rain showers. The giant trees are hauntingly Fern Gullyish.

I picked up this vintage silk blouse at The Rink (all my Okiehomies. . .you know of it? It's on Rockwell & 32nd ish?) I grabbed it a couple years ago, but it's still great. I'm a sucker for a vintage silk blouse. . .I snap 'em up like hot GF oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Pair a blouse with anything and you'll look like a million bucks. You absolutely can't go wrong. The jean shorts pairing is probably going to be my summer "go to" look that I'll keep recycling. . .but hey if it works, IT WORKS!

Leather & Lace

Can I let ya'll in on a little secret? I hate spring. I tell no lies. . .I've never liked this season, it ranks lowest on the season totem pole, and I'd rate it my 5th* liked season if I could. However I do enjoy the teas, luncheons and egg custard pies it welcomes in it's celebratory, but I'll pass on everything else and take a second helping of pie. I'd much rather sit in the brisk air of fall with a chai latte and soak in the colors of burnt orange, cranberry and hazelnut brown. But alas I do not control the seasonal comings and goings. . .I will breeze through spring with a Claritin D and all the best spring fashion.

I wore this dress and leather jacket on a lunch date with my one and only and then spent the rest of the day wondering around the weekend happenings of WeHo. It's few and far between when I actually get to share a weekend with Blake, and enjoy normal people weekend activities. . and this was one of those weekends. Just as much as I love mixing prints, I enjoy mixing opposite fabrics. The composition of several textures really builds a nice story. Here, the leather marry's the white lace nicely and kind of creates a biker wedding look. . .in the chicest way. The boots I scored at the LF sale a few weeks ago and I can NOT get them off my feet. Literally I want to wear them with everything.

Hope everyone had a wonderful April Fools. . .the day for me only meant ONE thing. The return of GAME OF THRONES. . .whose with me?!

Find me on Facebook and Twitter, I'd love to see all your faces on the wide world of social media!

Color Fractions

Alright, yes. . .I went there. . .blue, black and brown. Before we call Joan Rivers on the Fashion Police, hear my defense.

I concede there is definitely plenty of wrong ways to combined these colors, and is undoubtedly where the rule to banish this fashion faux pas originated from. I may have indeed infringed upon some of these for a short stint during the 5th grade. (remember MIA strappy sandals and Limited Too black knit bell bottoms? ok.) However I have drug myself out of that Boys II Men/Tamagotchi phase and have found a perfectly lovely way to wear these colors in a way that makes sense fashionably.

It's important you select ONE, (and only ONE) of the three colors, (black, blue, brown) to be your base statement. I chose black, we'll call this our Primary color. The other two, will call them our secondary colors, can only accessorize and contribute to the color palette. If you have equal portions of these 3 colors, it wont, I repeat, it wont, look right. Play with color fractions. 50% goes to your base, the other 50% goes to both of the other colors. . .25/25% or 30/20% or even 40/10%. Above is more of a 30(blazer)/20(purse). (Who ever said I didn't know math, obvi didn't know how to add up the colors in my outfit.) Whats great about my outfit in this post, is that without the bag it becomes a dual chromatic outfit, which is equally as sharp. . and a mono chromatic look without the blazer. *Tip: Outfi't's needs to make sense when you remove layers. . .think ahead.

This sunday turned into a wonderful date at Urth with Blake. If I have not mentioned before how much I love the Spanish Latte. . .well. ..I freaking love the Spanish Latte.

A Decade of Valentines

This year was the 10th Valentines Blake and I have shared together. . .it's hard to believe, but I tell no lies. (WARNING: this next sentence is a little "Nicholas Sparks", so you've been fairly warned.) The month of February is kind of fun for us seeing as how in high school at the "Heart's a Fire" Valentines dance is where he told me he loved me, and also the month we got engaged. So in attempts to make our 10th Valentines Day special. . .I brought my game. The two pictures above is what can happen if you're capable of hiding balloons for several hours and if one stays up till 3am sneaking about tacking streamers to 12 foot ceilings.

The hardest part was trying to find my Valentines night ensemble. That day I ran downtown to Barney's Annual Warehouse Sale at the Convention Center and found NOTHING. I did however learn that for next year I need to stand in line the day the sale begins to score anything a. in my size b. worth the $12 parking, and c. I would actually wear. I then ran to all my usual "damn, I waited till the last minute" stores and found. . .wait for it. . . NOTHING. I am of the kind, who on special occasions likes to shop for a specific dress for that event. Am I alone in this? I don't think so. I was unbelievably devastated that I came home empty handed and had to pull something from my own racks. It turned out, that I ended up loving my outfit and found it absolutely perfect for the evening. I had wanted something simple and alluring and not overdone. It's nice to kinda strip all that glitter and sequins away we were choking in during the Holiday season (although I really can NEVER get enough of it). . .and just be simply sexy for Valentines. As you can see here, I clearly haven't quite committed to parting my hair down the middle just yet. . you can see its at an awkward -almost there position. Hopefully in future posts I can relay that I am in a fully functioning and long term committed relationship with, the Middle Part. These are the only pictures we were able to grab before we left for my surprise evening. . .because of coarse I was running late. . .and because of coarse we had reservations. I didn't even get one with my lovely fur coat. They are a bit of a funny color, but we were already 30 minutes late and so. . .I had to deal.

In the spirit of Valentines, I wanted to share how deeply thankful I am to ya'll, my readers. I am so encouraged and excited to see that I am being read near and far. . and far far, away. Please make sure to leave me a comment or message, it would be perfect to hear from you guys. Thanks a million times, iLUVya!

Combats and Scallops

Currently the weather in LA is dealing with a bout of schizophrenia. I can not seem to adequately prepare for what Motha Nature might throw at me. . .hence this post. A parka-ish coat and shorts. Yes lovelies, it seems that that is the answer to the winter solstice this season. Wether or not this is fashionable is still to be debated, but for this particular weekend it got me comfortably through the day, and that and my iced coffee is all I needed. ya heard me.

This sweater used to be a turtle neck, and on this morning in question I decided I was over the turtle option and grabbed a rando pair of heavy duty scissors with a lazer beam attachment I got in my stalking on Christmas a few years back (that have proven to be more handy than originally expected. . .thank you, father in law) and zipped it right off.  [I now have a brand new circle scarf. . .bonus]. On another note, I've been in to just flicking on some mascara and a red lip and calling it done. . . I feel like this is the quickest way to glam with the least amount of effort and look ready for the day. Anyone else have a trick like this?
